  1. If you're in contact with these developers, please let them know that 1080p is a waste of bandwidth for many of the channels they are putting up. Anything sent via FOX (and its cable affiliates), and anything sent via ABC/Disney (and its cable properties), will originate as 720p. Anything sent via NBC (and its cable properties) and CBS (and its cable properties) will be 1080i. Sending it out as 1080p does NOT increase the quality, it just increases the amount of bandwidth being hogged. This is all part of the ATSC specs. ABC/Disney and FOX wanted a progressive format so each frame being sent would be sent as a full frame to minimize aliasing in their pictures for their heavily sports-laden properties. NBC and CBS wanted more lines of resolution (as they are more entertainment driven), and chose to send out the pictures like NTSC, in two fields, upper and lower, with one taking dominance for sync purposes. 1080i takes up the same bandwidth as 720p. By sending out in 1080p these cable and TV channels, you are sending out a pile of empty data slots (zeros) that will never produce anything, but will increase the size of your data load for no good reason. To save them a buck on the upload, they should take this into consideration. By not having to download these empty addresses, it also lowers the amount of bandwidth the end-users consume against their data plans with their ISPs.
